On the mianus river today. Was very warm for November, in the 60s. Had to take off all of my jackets, hats, gloves and carry them around. Other than that had only a Plano 3200 in my back pocket.

The water was crystal clear and the sun was bright. I felt like I could see every square inch of the river. It was so clear that I was able to watch a small trout chasing down my spinner all the way back to my rod, but he didn’t commit to the bite. I think he eventually saw me and darted way.

I hooked three fish on the Rapala original floating minnow, but the hooks must not have been sharp enough, and they all got off. But I’m happy with those results, it shows that the fish will bite a baitfish lure that isn’t a spinner. I couldn’t believe how small some of the fish that were going after that big wooden minnow were. Some were so small that I could hardly feel the bite. Eventually, I lost the floater to a hanging branch. After an hour or two of tossing spinners, and another fish lost, I landed a tiger trout. I used up all of the homemade snap swivels and ring swivels, and had to go home. I can’t wait to try some of hunting lures, and I won’t have to use a swivel for that — only a snap, if I want. Wish me luck tomorrow.
