Thanksgiving afternoon at Kensico Reservoir. Nancy caught the family record, a 20 inch lake trout.
After that I switched things up to a few different bass lures to try to catch something different. I really wanted to catch a smallmouth on a ned rig. But after throwing a paddle tail swimbait around for a few casts, I watched a massive fish follow it all the way to shore. At the time, I thought it was a huge lake trout. It stared at me for a few seconds and swam off. I casted just 10 or 15 feet over it's head and retrieved it into its face. It bit, and I fought it right at the shore until Nancy got the net. To my surprise, it was a massive chain pickerel — the first chain pickerel that I've caught.

We took the lake trout home and dakota smoked it in the backyard. Will eat it tomorrow.
