An hour and a half on the river today. The river was flowing fast, but not unbearably so. I saw something strange: a racoon (dead) splayed (belly down) over a rock in the middle of the river. I imagined it may have drowned or somehow died and then been pulled by the current while the water was a bit stronger than I saw it. But it was still unsettling considering the coyote yelps I heard last evening.

I caught one tiger trout on the ryuki spearhead. It casts well because it's heavy, but something about the weighted balls inside seems to affect my accuracy. The tiger was particularly bright, and the sun was shining right where I netted it. I caught it in my usual place, where I almost always catch one.

Then, a bit further up, in a place where I've only ever caught a red shiner, I hooked a rainbow. I was stubborn about using my net, and let it drift for a long time in the current, which was a mistake. It shook the hook and I was left empty-handed. It was my fault, and it looked like a big rainbow, too. Like I mentioned yesterday, I need to get more organized with my tools.
